Image viewer

The image viewer buit into X-plore is advanced tool for viewing individual images or playing presentation on collection of images.

Functions:

  • Zoom in/out and slide images by touch
  • View gallery (like film strip) with images in collection
  • Rename, delete or share image
  • View Exif data of JPG images
  • Play slideshow
  • Find faces in image and zoom to them

The image viewer is best used when configuration option Use own viewers is enabled in X-plore. In that case, X-plore opens its image viewer on list of all images in active folder. Also X-plore can show images from any available location that it can display.
Anyway, the image viewer can be used also from other apps, in such case it will work only for images stored locally on device.

This assumes that you look at collection of images (in a folder).

Moving to previous or next image

To select neighbour image in displayed collection, you can use these ways:

  • Clicking left or right side of screen, this is indicated by an arrow with blue background
  • Using volume buttons
  • Sliding image to left or right side of screen, so that next image is scolled in
  • Using gallery navigation tool to fast browse and select all viewed images

Zooming in/out in image

To zoom to point of your interest in image, you can use more ways:

  • Long-click on any place in image
  • Use two fingers to zoom in/out
  • Use zoom button at bottom right to find faces in image and zoom to them
  • If already zoomed in, use the zoom button to zoom back to see entire image

Closing Image viewer

Since the Image viewer is using entire device's screen, to close it, you can press invisible button at bottom-left corner of screen. If device has hardware back button, it will also work. Or use standard Android's way to get out of fullscreen mode, and use soft back button. There is also Exit option in the menu.

Face detection

The Image viewer contains face detection function, which finds faces in a photo and then zooms them to center of screen. This works manually using the zoom button, or automatically in Slideshow if it is enabled in Options. In manual zoom, faces are also shown as ellipses during zooming, while in Slideshow there is no such visual confirmation.

Face detection is there for fun, and should be taken as such. Sometimes it doesn't find face, and sometimes it finds a face where none exists, for example in a grass or ground. Computers are still limited to see things, so take this function with tolerance.

The gallery is a strip of images in displayed collection. It can be shown or hidden by a button located at bottom center of screen. When displayed, gallery offers convenient and fast navigation to images in the collection.
You can also long-press on image to get popup menu with options available on current image.

There is a system menu displayed when clicking on invisible button at top right part of screen. It contains basic operations possible on currently displayed image, as well as some more functions, such as display Options, slideshow or Exit.

Operations on image

Rename and Delete functions allow you to work on displayed image.
With Share function you can send the image somewhere.
Showing Exif data will display details stored in JPG image by a digital camera.

Slideshow

The Slideshow function allows to see all images in collection in a nicely animated presentation. You can configure some details how Slideshow works in Options from the Menu.

The slideshow can search for faces in image and zoom to them automatically.

During slideshow, you can still skip to neighbour images, it won't interrupt the show.

Stopping slideshow

To stop slideshow, you can start to interact with device - open menu or touch and slide on screen. If you stop it accidentally, you can still continue from current image from a Menu.

Playing slideshow on folder hierarchy

In X-plore's file manager, you can long-click on folder and choose Slideshow function. This will collect all images in folder and subfolders, sort them by chosed sort mode for multimedia, and display in image viewer in Slideshow mode. So you can show entire folder with images at once.
Note that you can still stop the slideshow as usual and just see explroe the collection manually.
