Codecs for use by SmartMovie Converter

Codecs are Windows system components on PC. Typically they're 3rd party extensions to multimedia system, which allow multimedia applications to work with particular video or audio format. If your system doesn't have installed codecs, or contains old incorrect ones, you may not be able to open video files, or multimedia application may work incorrectly.

There are various codec packs available for free download. Each codec pack supports one or more video formats, and optionally other components (audio formats, subtitles, etc). Typically you need to install only one codec pack for being able to open most video files.

Recommended codec packs

FFDShow
File size: 4MB

K-lite
File size: 15MB

After installing one of these software packs you'll be able to open video of these types:
AVI, MPG, MPEG, WMV, VOB (and possibly others)

Installation

Remove any previous codecs, and install ONE of above, which should let you play most video formats. If you have still problems, you may need to install additional codecs for your particular video files.

Note: to uninstall previous codecs, open Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall codecs - these programs typically contain "Divx", "Xvid" or "codec" words in their names.
