please add the "x-plore text editor" when opening unknown file type as text.
currently there is only the text viewer is available, but it will be really nice if the editor could be added on the list.

i would love to edit my system configuration files, like /system/build.prop, directly from x-plore without moving or renaming the files.

THANKS!!

actually THIS was the primary reason why i suggested smarter file type handling...
i was expecting to open the file as text with built-in editor(really the x-plore text editor is superb) but the in the app list the editor was missing, leaving me somewhat disappointed... :(

and for the KNOWN text files, please let us edit the files instead of opening the file with internal viewer.

Good news, this was added! Wait for version 2.51+

Editing of text files (or any file in root dir) will be possible in X-plore text editor.
Also .prop and .rc files will be listed as text files.

...only with X-plore text editor - no "open by" function - so we(!!) can chose e.g. a hex-editor? Please explain why LCG has a problem to implement a "open by" function/feature. Thx

Files in root are accessed specially, they are read/written by X-plore, so X-plore can directly edit these, not through some other app.
On sdcard you can open files by any app.

lol - looks like this is very "special" only for LCG - with each other Explorer (e.g. ES File Explorer) its not a problem - simple "open by" with hexedit or something else - you can view , edit etc. everything you like.
Same problem for LCG with simple .PDF files to open on network drive or try to edit a simple TXT file - not possible....

It is very dubious why LCG has problems with simple functions to implement - can not or will not? Somehow, the development is in the wrong direction - if you want to develop a file explorer (copy, paste, delete, edit, rename, view, open.....) and not something else.

lol, did you try to edit some text file in /system folder in any file explorer?
You can try, you'll get list of apps to open with, apps will usually also read the file, but they won't save it back!
Or are you writing about something else???

And opening non-streaming files (pdf, etc) from network is not yet implemented. It would be possible by copying to local file and open in read-only mode. Maybe will be added in future.

e.g. in init.d - simple scripts files....

Nobody will copy a PDF to open it with X-Plore.... use ES File Exporer!

woodyxxl, please explain this:

Didn't you find "Open by" function in X-plore? If there're more apps that can open some file (X-plore checks for this), then this option is present in menu, or offered after click on file when there's no default app set for opening such file.
Your comments are not constuctive at all, you only write "use ES". Use it if you like, in such case don't make silly posts here.

You should use your own product once! My suggestion: It would be useful to test "ES" - maybe you will "find" the missing functionality of X-plore.

Try to read and understand what I´m telling you. There is NO "open by" for e.g. PDF on network drives....

Your answers are not constructive at all..... It looks as if LGC have no interest in improvements - so I will stop posting here....
The idea of X-plore is very good - but a lot of core functions are missing. I use X-plore only for simple copy/delete/move functions...

i updated today and can see the function is implemented just perfectly. this is lovely.

now i can recommend x-plore as a perfect replacement for the root explorer.

lovely. thanks.

and lol, i once used the es file explorer, but it was not that satisfactory. clearly x-plore is now superior in stability and features i think.
