Hardly, N97 widgets work only on N97 ;)

I know - and that's exactly what I've posted 3 or 5 messages earlyer in this Thread. Maybe I can help you converting it to WGT for I8910HD? I've made 2 or 3 WGT Widgets and they're similar to WGZ except of the .plist and the .xml File :) Just give it a try and tell me how I can help you?

s60mike: thanks for offer. Luckily Samsung has same remote device lab as Nokia, so we can test on real Samsung phone remotely. We'll check possibility of such widget. Your help may be useful later.

The widget is great news, but I'm afraid if LCG settles on single design, there always will be requests to change/add this or that. What if the widget area is defined by a user-editable template file. Or maybe later a UI for the template could be added. For example, lets assume the following variables are available in the widget:

A[] - array of existing account names
m[A,U] - array of last U unread messages from account A
f[A,U] - array of From addresses from unread messages in account A
s[A,U] - array of Subjects in account A
d[A,U] - array of date/time values
M[U] - array of last U unread messages from all accounts
F[U] - array of From addresses from all unread messages
S[U] - array of Subjects
D[U] - array of date/time values
N[A] - count of unread messages from account A
T[A] - total count of messages in account A

In the template file, we have 3 lines each corresponding to the widget line where the content defined by template will be placed. The format string could resemble sprintf function arguments (maybe even a number of characters for each field). This way, users can have any display they want, for example:

A[0]: N[A0] (T[A0]) / A[1]: N[A1] (T[A1])
"Gmail: 2(10) / Yahoo: 4(12)"

F[0].. S[0].. D[0]
F[1].. S[1].. D[1]

"From1...Subj1...Time1"
"From2...Subj2...Time2"

A[0]: f[0,1]...[s[0,1]..d[0,1]
A[1]: f[1,1]...[s[1,1]..d[1,1]

"Gmail: From1...Subj1...Time1"
"Yahoo: From2...Subj2...Time2"

Also, I don't think scrolling is worth wasting time on. If there are new messages, I don't want to keep staring on the home screen waiting for all messages to scroll up, I'll just open Profimail to see them all. It's also a waste of CPU resources and battery.

First Widget test comes:

(now it's part of beta version)

Run PM one time, then widget is available for adding to Home screen.
It's simple for now. Soon we'll connect it with effort to provide better home screen notification on all platforms (probably graphical), so it may evolve in future.

It shows one recent message (sender+subject), and you can move back to see previous recent messages. Recent means message received after PM went to background.
Clicking on email or subject opens the message. Clicking on icon opens ProfiMail

Hi. Thanks for the widget, in principle it works and is great.
But I think, there is a serious BUG:

When I have the widget on my homescreen, and turn my phone off and back on, everything it totally screwed up. My N97 won't even restart correctly. Instead of my homescreen, I see Profimail running and can't close it.
By switching manually to the Homescreen, it won't react. What helps, it remove the Profimail Widget from the Homescreen and restart phone. Then everything is back normal.

Can anyone confirm this?

Greeting
SpeedStar

Restarts are OK here. The widget displays "<- Click to start Profimail" then Profimail is auto-launched and it can be closed or brought to background

Not for me. It seems like the widget autostarts Profimail, if not running, on my phone.
If I add the widget to my homescreen while Profimail is not running in background, I see "click to start Profimail" for a couple of seconds, but then Profimail is automatically starts without pressing anything. I assume same thing is happening when I boot my phone.

EDIT: Found the problem! I had turned on security code on startup. After turning this off, it works. Anyway, I still think this is a bug.

Greetings

SpeedStar: this is feature of N97 that it starts apps providing widget functions. This is kind of autostart for ProfiMail. We can't change it in any way. We can only make ProfiMail not to come to foreground during widget load.

LCG Admin: Thanks for your assistance. I think I know what you mean, nevertheless at least for me, something is wrong here. When I start my N97, I first have to enter my sim card pin code. If I do that immediately, everything is fine. The Nokia animation is running, I see my homescreen and profimail is starting automatically.
However, if I do not enter the code immediately and wait, for example for 30 seconds, then enter the code, the boot sequenz is screwed up. I see at once profimail, even before the nokia animation and the phone is not reacting correctly. I can't even switch it off, only battery out helps. I think my first thought with the security code has nothing to do with it. For me it seems like profimail is autostarting to fast.

Am I really the only N97 user with that kind of problem?

Backgrounding it on widget load is probably a good idea anyway.

Mike, you may try writing to LCG. They might send you the widget file I guess.

Fault if you think is there, lies in Nokia phones. I have security code for my phone. I also have seven running which automatically starts every time the phone is booted. Thing I have noticed is that if I enter the security code-after like 30 seconds, seven is fully loaded by that time. The application usually takes around 30 seconds to load. So the nokia phones do not wait for the user to enter the security code. Whatever is meant to happen in background, will happen irrespective of you entering the code or not.

Try this -

* Have security code set for your phone.
* Also make Nokia's screen saver time-out to be 1 minute or less (if possible).
* Now turn off and turn on the phone. Wait for the security code screen to come up.
* Do not enter the security code for 2 minutes and you will find the Nokia's screen saver occupying the screen.

So, the best thing as the Admin said would be to make PM running in the background while phone boots.

Sunil

Personally I think it should show the email on the homepage where if you chose that email it should show up.

Great feature!
Maybe you could add some options. I would like to see my last three emails, even if read or not. Currently the text "No recent messages" is displayed if there is no unread email available.

S60Mike, I have an i8910 as well and I am going to look into modifying the widget today. Maybe SIS extract can get the widget out of the SIS file? I will try.

Hi!

I have some serious problem after installing PM widget.

When powering on my N97 and entering PIN, Profimail flashes (accounnts screen). Then all is blank. White screen only and phone is "dead".

I have tried several times to remove battery and restarted.

Any ideas?

Loving the new widget! It actually convinced me to stop trialing Profimail and buy it. Also clears up a homescreen shortcut so I can use it for something else.

I'm not sure how the N97 widgets work but I tried doing a SIS extract and all i see is widget.dll...

For the i8910 widgets are basically a .zip file (with the extension changed to .wgt) and a few basic things inside of it.

Not sure how we can make this work on the i8910 without the actual widget code and not a dll.
